China’s biggest IT merger completed: China Netcom and China Unicom

The new China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited is created after China Netcom Group Corporation (Hong Kong) Limited was fully incorporated into China Unicom Limited. The merger completed the restructuring in the capital market of China’s telecommunication industry since a few ministries made a joint decision to reorganize the country’s telecommunication industry.
Consequently, Netcom's shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and its American Depositary Shares on the New York Stock Exchange were delisted.
By far the merger is China’s biggest as the trade value of the merger stood at USD 24 billion. In June, the two IT giants held about 260 million subscribers, including 128 million GSM users, 109 million fixed-line phone users and 23.36 million broadband subscribers in China.
